Report shows tough-minded Tories keep it all to themselves
While left-wingers are more relaxed and less self-controlled
As the UK political parties hold their annual conferences and US voters begin deciding who they will vote for in the Presidential election, new data has emerged on the personality types associated with different political leanings.
Research issued today has revealed that Conservative voters are more likely to be tough-minded introverts, compared to their left-wing counterparts who are more sensitive, less self-controlled and less anxious.
The study, run by Persona Bubble, the free personality test designed to deliver insight into your character, cross-referenced over a thousand peoples’ political preferences with their personality profiles.
Interestingly, Tory tough-mindedness is in contrast to their coalition colleagues; those who said they would vote Liberal were more sensitive, with decisions more likely to be based on feelings and emotions.
Rob Bailey from Persona Bubble said of the results today: “Tough-mindedness refers to a style of thinking that is concrete, unsentimental, logical, objective, and favours tangible, factual information and convention. More tender-minded thinking, common among Liberal and Labour voters includes consideration of new ideas, different subjective experiences and openness to intuition, emotion and other people’s feelings.”

- Anarchist – less self-controlled, more anxious
- Nationalist – lower tough-mindedness, less self-controlled
- Religious activist – more self-controlled
